The New School Admissions: Acceptance Rate, Requirements, Deadlines, Application Process

Founded about a century ago in 1919, New School is a private research university that invites applications for admissions to over 135 undergraduate and graduate programs. The institute is a reputed name in the US education system and is home to several schools and colleges of various disciplines including design, liberal arts, performing arts, social work, and media studies and environmental studies.

Around 9,208 students applied for admission to New School in fall. The acceptance rate of New School was 57%. Out of the accepted students, 57% enrolled in various undergraduate programs. The school has a total enrollment of around 5,100 degree seeking students. Over 35% international students are enrolled at the design school. New School International Student Admissions

The admission process for domestic and international students are both conducted online. However, international students have additional requirements and must be careful with their visa process so as to complete it in time.

Admission Requirements: First year applicants must submit the following documents for admission to undergraduate programs:

  • High school transcripts are inclusive of grades from the last three years with a GPA of 3.42 and above.
  • Official high school/ college transcripts from all previously attended institutions.
  • Essay (500-650 words)
  • Statement of purpose
  • Portfolio and Parsons Challenge
  • 2 letters of recommendation (from a counselor or a teacher)
  • SAT/ACT scores (not required for admission)
  • Audition, if required
  • Proof of English language proficiency (applicants whose native language is not English)

Visa Process for International Students

  • All the International students have to apply for the F-1 or J-1 visa to be able to study at Troy University.
  • For this, the applicant has to obtain Form I-20/DS-2019 from the university. Applicants will need to provide the following documents to receive the Form I-20/DS-2019:
    • Copy of valid passport
    • Proof of financial support
    • Bank statement
    • Sponsor letter
  • After obtaining the Form I-20 from the university, the applicant needs to complete the I-20 and pay the SEVIS I-901 fee.
